BlackBerry Passport, 3GB RAM & Android app installer
Like a parent who is keen to keep the love of their children by surprising them with a few striking gifts from time to time, BlackBerry do love their devoted customers and they are always out to impress them by the manufacture of appealing devices from time to time. However, whereas the gifts from parents may be ‘free’, devices from BlackBerry are not anywhere near ‘cheap’. The new BlackBerry Passport mobile phone has been staged to test the enthusiasm of devotees towards a blocky phone. Just like the name, the BlackBerry Passport apes the real passport in shape and closely in dimensions. It is thickset and square shaped.
The Passport must have been designed with the user’s desire to easily read, type or edit text or documents on the phone dominating the mind of the designer. This is because its keyboard is shrewdly placed at the bottom where the thumb rests while holding the device. As such, whether with one hand or both, typing will be quite fast as the flexibility of the thumbs is guaranteed. Above the keyboard is a 4.5-inch display with very thin spaces on the sides and just enough space above to hold the BlackBerry brand, an earpiece and a 2MP secondary camera.
As is the custom with BlackBerry OS 10 products, the performance of the Passport is guaranteed as the block shape houses some prevailing and admirable specs. For instance, a 2.26 GHz processor fitted with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 chipset and Adreno 330 GPU makes for fast navigation and performance. The BlackBerry 10.3 operating system is the one running the Passport. Integrated in the phone is a whopping 3GB of RAM which rightly complements the processor to make this device powerful and completely flawless in terms of speed and multitasking.
The BlackBerry Passport can comfortably step in as camera to cover any event as its 13MP primary camera with a resolution of 4128 x 3098 pixels can take quite stunning photos. In addition, the camera has an LED flash to illuminate poorly lit areas and autofocus which makes for stress-free use. Some of the other appealing features include geo-tagging, image stabilization and face detection. With 1080p@60fps, video capability is also not doubtful.
There should little concern about where to store the videos and photos taken together with other apps and games. This is because the BlackBerry Passport comes with an internal memory of 32GB and a provision for expandable microSD up to 128GB.
The 4.5-inch display makes for crisp and stunningly clear viewing. BlackBerry decided to slam in a resolution of 1440 x 1440 pixels which culminates into an admirable concentration of 453 pixels per inch, the screen also supports multitouch for up to ten fingers. Corning Gorilla Glass protection makes sure it survives scratches and maintains that new look for quite some time. Noticeably the metallic frame that hems in the keyboard and the shiny screen contributes to the expensive look of the BlackBerry Passport.
A durable 3450mAh battery is screwed in which can hold up in standby mode up to 432h (2G) and 444h (3G); Up to 18h (2G) and Up to 23h (3G) of calls and music play of up to 84h. This makes the phone suitable for use anywhere in the world with particular emphasis on places where power supply is not constant.
If you are a BlackBerry diehard and a lady for that matter, close your eyes to the masculine block shape and delve into an amazing world by trying the Passport. You will be wooed into sticking with it all the same after you get used to its appearance.
