HP Slate 6 VoiceTab, 6 inch display & stereo speakers

When it comes to prowess in production of outstanding PCs, HP has marked that territory very well. However, with regard to smartphones and tablets, there are still some great miles to be covered. There is very steep competition in this field from established dealers and HP should work truly hard in getting rid of software and functionality flaws. From the HP Slate 7 to the HP Slate 7 Voicetab and the HP Slate 6 Voicetab, there seems to be some improvement in the design, colour variation and a few hardware and software features. The price has also been upped to match the progress in the feature. Has HP done much to compete favorably on the already flooded phablet market? Let the specs speak for themselves.

The HP Slate 6 Voicetab is powered by a quad-core processor running at 1.2 GHz, which, combined with the 1GB of RAM may limit high speed functioning of multiple apps. Furthermore, given its size (6 inches) it may be a preferable choice by gamers and video fans. The gaming experience however is not as appealing as one would wish. Light games are fun to play here but if you turn to heavy loaded ones, you are bound to experience some lag and unresponsiveness to commands. The internal memory of 16GB is a fair start but for those obsessed with storage space, there is chance for expansion via microSD up to 64GB.

It may turn out that unlike Huawei, Apple, Samsung and other top notch manufactures, HP may not be very keen on developing a user interface to spice up the Android operating system. For instance, the HP Slate 6 Voicetab runs on Android 4.3 (which is a bit behind schedule) thus you should be prepared to slow down a bit while navigating the phone in order to match the intermission in receptiveness. Such like flaws will however only be detected by those who have had a chance to use more responsive phablets and not first time experimenters who are the main target market for HP.

The design is commendable and the 6 inch screen blends in well to make the HP Slate 6 appear to be a great device from the outside. You only have to look at the gold finish on the otherwise plastic edging and the glassy finish on the back cover and you will be assured of confidence when you hold out your device. Furthermore, despite its screen size, the device is quite slim and rather on the lighter side (only 160 grams) compared to other devices with the same screen size. Keep in mind that looks might be deceiving and the large screen for one has an ordinary resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels.

On the positive side, the 3000mAh battery is a good cover up for many faults. For the African market, this is a welcome option as it will last more onboard whether with or without continuous power supply. In addition, the fact that this device provides for two SIMs is also good for those who prefer to use only one phone at a do. With regard to camera capability, we may only mention that the HP Slate 6 has a 5MP back camera and a 2MP front camera with no strikingly exceptional features to venture into.
