Microsoft Lumia 640 XL, 5.7" Screen:QUICK REVIEW

At the Mobile world congress (MWC) Microsoft unleashed a duo of smartphones the 5" Lumia 640 and the bigger brother the lumia 640XL. They both pack amazing features, but the most interesting is the 640XL

Microsoft has announced this device already but its actual release to the market is slated for some time towards the end of this month at least.

As expected the Lumia XL will be targeted at the value- minded customer who goes out shopping with the hope of landing a great smartphone at a mid-range price.

This particular phablet has been assembled with a 5.7 inch screen which uses IPS and ClearBlack technology to produce high definition display.

As is the case for many phablets, weight was always going to be an issue which means you will have to contend with the 171 grams that this one packs.

To provide the platform for running applications, there is a quad-core Snapdragon processor which clocks 1.2 GHz. The RAM will be 1GB in size.

The Lumia 640 XL comes with 8GB of internal storage space but this can be expanded further by 128GB via the micro SD card slot.

With such specs, Microsoft has appeared to be veering away from the traditional formula of using the windows OS as its primary marketing tool and has instead decided to throw in more impressive hardware as well.

There is still reason to be excited about the OS as well since the Windows 8.1 that Lumia 640 XL comes with will be upgradable to Windows 10 once it becomes available towards the end of the year. Furthermore, the OS will have a Lumia Denim interface for a richer camera experience, your live folders and all the additional features such as Cortana, the digital personal assistant.

The cameras fitted into this device are a 13 megapixel sensor on the back complimented by a 5 megapixel sensor on the front. The back camera has autofocus functions and an LED bulb for the flash.

Both cameras will be capable of 1080p video at 30 frames per second that will make recording clear videos a breeze and make Skype calls all the more enjoyable.

Its microphone features active noise cancellation making this phablet a complete thrill to have as a companion for work and entertainment.

To keep the charge going for longer, Microsoft has fitted a 3,000mAh battery behind the plastic back cover, which also houses NFC for wireless payments and music streaming.

The edges are smoothed over for easier handling and to make it more comfortable to fit in the pocket. But with a diameter of 9 mm, this is still a pretty bulky device that will easily bulge the pocket.
