Samsung Galaxy A3, aluminium unibody & 1.5GB RAM

It was really brilliant for the South Korean company to once again surprise devotees of its devices by flashing out the two wholly metallic phones. That is Samsung Galaxy A3 and Samsung Galaxy A5. These phones are glossy, trim and they both scream elegance. Both take a rectangular form, they are very sturdy – given the aluminum casing with the battery firmly sealed in. However, despite their tough armor, they are not as heavy as an assumption would go; but rather on the lighter side. Do not however expect breath taking specs from these premium looking phones, since they undertake a league of their own – away from the distinguished S series. They fall in the mid range category thus the specs are regulated to match the price tag.

Samsung Galaxy A3
Very well, now we can focus our attention on the Galaxy A3. With a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with up to 16 million colors; one might expect a fabulous viewing experience. However, a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (qHD) and pixel density of 245 pixels per inch is surprisingly on the lower side. This pedestrian resolution blurs the appearance of texts and images. For an upper mid range price, we anticipated a better job from Samsung. However, the viewing angle is expected to be at par with other premium Samsung phones. Gamers and video streamers may not be pulled into the list of purchasers. The slimness of the phone has contributed to its light weight; a meager 110.3 grams.

Samsung Galaxy A3 is run by the up-to-date Android 4.4.4 KitKat which is the OS of choice for most 2014 flagship smartphones. With regard to hardware, there is enough power in the 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. In addition, the 1.5GB of RAM is a good complement to the processor as it is big enough to accommodate somewhat heavy programs and handle multiple tasks. The internal memory is a whopping 16GB which you can extend to 64GB via a microSD card. The memory slot, just like the handset’s nano SIM is located on the handset’s edge where it’s accessible without removing the back cover.

The 8MP primary camera may not be good enough to replace independent high-pixel cameras for those keen on covering life events with high quality photos. It however has an LED flash to compensate for poor lighting and autofocus to enhance user friendliness while shooting objects from different distances. It is worth mentioning the additional features like geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and panorama which may alter the perception of a few photographers. The front facing 5MP camera is quite sufficient for video chats and selfies.

Samsung might have settled for a non-removable battery in order to increase the sturdiness of the phone by having the aluminum body compactly held together. However, the choice of a 1900mAh battery is quite questionable. This battery will actually not last very long after being recharged and a backup might be appropriate. The sealed back limits the phone to comfortable use only where one is assured of continuous power supply.

The Galaxy A3 will be available in a wide range of colors accommodating both masculine and feminine tastes. Should you be interested in durability and a user friendly OS, look no further than the Samsung Galaxy A3.
